Beste Pieter,

Wildepruim, wurgbessie, basbessie en kuslooibas is die mooi Afrikaanse volksname vir hierdie interessante struik. Colpoon compressum (sommige plaas dit in die genus Osyris), is ‘n hemiparasiet, wat beteken dat die wortels by ander plante se wortelstelsels aansluit, en plantsappe steel. Die plant het veel gebruike, veral as ‘n bron van tannien om velle te looi, sowel as die vrugte wat tradisioneel deur die San geëet is.
