An earthquake of magnitude 4,2 struck the area of Namaqualand close to Springbok in the early hours of the morning.
An unconfirmed report stated that the moderate quake struck 38 km southeast of Springbok around 01:39 this morning.

The council for geoscience confirmed the quake magnitude of 4,2.
“The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Springbok, Namakwa District Municipality, Northern Cape, South Africa, early morning on Tuesday 6 July 2021 at 1:39 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
“Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
“Weak shaking might have been felt in Springbok (pop. 10,400) located 42 km from the epicenter.”
